有媒體報導，由於國民黨準總統參選人洪秀柱近來言論引發爭議，加上近期馬政府執政不力，恐衝擊下屆立委選情，黨內目前評估，下屆立委席次只能保住大約45席，要維持國會過半目標相當不容易。
對此，立法院長王金平8日出席工商協進會會員大會前受訪時表示，目前黨內仍有很多選區的立委候選人還沒確定，現在談席次多寡「言之過早」，但他也坦言，國民黨立委席次要達到4年前的64席水準有點困難。他說：『(原音)現在很難估，很多個選區的候選人都還沒有確定，現在評估這個還是言之過早。當然要像4年前，或許要達到那個水準是有點困難。』
對於媒體詢問他有關洪秀柱曾罹癌一事，王金平表示他並不清楚。
